Roald Tellnes er født i Bergen og har etter endt utdanning
vært bosatt på Karmøy.
Hans uttrykksform er høyst personlig, og han benytter seg av en sjelden og meget spesiell teknikk, materialtrykk.
I materialtrykk benytter han metallbiter, netting, plast og andre gjenstander som bunnmateriale.

Roald Jostein Tellnes was born in Bergen / Norway in 1946. After finishing his studies, he settled down in Karmoy, where he has his atelier. Among his teachers of art are Anthony Benjamin and Micheal Rothenstein who learnt Tellnes to make “material prints”. His Work of art comprises prints, sculptures and ceramics.
Roald Tellnes has held several separate exhibitions in Europe and USA and also in Japan. He has participated in many collective exhibitions, among others the exhibition “Lès Art en Èurope.”
His works of art are found in many art galleries, and official and private collections, such as The Norwegian Cultural Counsil, The county of Rogaland, the painting and art collections of Stavanger (Norway) Kuopio (Finland), Lyngby (Denmark), The Bank of Norway, Norsk Hydro and the Ski museum of Nagano in Hakuba in Japan among others.
Many of Roald Tellnes main pieces of work can be seen in Haganes near Bergen where Fjell County in 1993 established a permanent art museum named Roald Tellnes Art Collection.
